In 1964, the Andijan Institute of Cotton Growing was organized on the basis of a branch of the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers. In 1979, on the basis of the Faculty of Agronomy, the department of “Plant Protection” was created, and later in 2004, by decree No. 260-L of the rector of the institute, on the basis of two independent departments, a new one was formed – “Agrochemistry, soil science and plant protection”.According to the order of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. 183 dated December 3, 2012, the department of “Agrochemistry, soil science and plant protection” was renamed to the department of “Plant Protection and Quarantine”.Since the 2018-2019 academic year, the Department of Plant Protection and Agricultural Phytopathology has been created.From the 2023-2024 academic year, the department of “Quarantine and Plant Protection” was created. The Department of “Quarantine and Plant Protection” is a specialized department, the stages of the educational process are bachelor’s degree: full-time and part-time “Quarantine and Plant Protection”, “Biotechnology (by industry)”, Master’s degree: “Plant Protection”. “, “Quarantine of plants and agricultural products”, “Monitoring and forecasting in plant protection”, specialty “Biotechnology in horticulture.”The department mainly teaches fundamental and applied sciences. In the current academic year, 30 teachers work at the department, 11 of them have an academic degree, and the scientific potential of the department was 36.7%.

Scientific achievements: during the 2023-2024 academic year, professors of the department published about 40 articles in international journals, about 60 articles in republican journals, more than 70 theses, 3 monographs, 6 recommendations were published. Received 4 copyright certificates from the Intellectual Property Agency under the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Achievements of scientific work: assistant of the Department of Quarantine and Plant Protection on the topic “Scientific basis for studying the main cherry pests in the Fergana Valley and managing their numbers” received a Ph.D. Associate Professor of the Department Mirzayeva S.A. received the title of professor on 06.01.09 in the specialty “Plant Protection”.
Spiritual work: The department has drawn up plans for spiritual and educational work for the 2023-2024 academic year, and their implementation is being carried out consistently. According to the plan developed by the Center for Spirituality and Education of the Institute and the materials of the “Information Hour”, recommended by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the department conducts classes every Thursday “Curator Hour”. Spiritual, educational, moral and educational activities are carried out with students studying in the field of plant protection.
