In 1995, it started operating under the name «Botany and Plant Protection». Since 2004, the department started working under the name «Farming and ecology».
\nFrom December 3, 2012, according to the order of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Management of Uzbekistan No. 185 dated November 27, 2012, the name of the department was changed to \u201cGenetics, selection and breeding of agricultural crops\u201d.
\nFrom January 2016, according to the order of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. 311 dated November 3, 2015, the name of the department was changed to \u201cGenetics, selection and seed production of agricultural crops\u201d.
\nFrom August 10, 2017, in accordance with the new structure of the institute approved by the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. 220 of November 7, 2017, according to the order of the rector of the institute No 335 (V) dated August 10, 2017, was newly established under the name of \u201cmedicinal plants\u201d.
\nFrom 2022 until now, it has been operating under the name of the department \u201cSelection of agricultural crops, seed production and cultivation of medicinal plants\u201d.<\/p>\n

Jorayev, M. Baratova received the title of Doctor of Science in the work of the Department. In addition, 6 doctors of philosophy (PhD) A. Rakhimov, Sh. Kasimova, N. Mirkhomidova, S. Rasulov, U. Abdumalikov, A. Abdurakhimova successfully defended their dissertations.
\nToday, 3 professors, 2 associate professors, 8 senior teachers and 12 assistants are working in the department. In addition, 11 doctoral students and 4 master’s students are studying in the department.
\nDuring 2023, 50 scientific articles were published in international scientific journals («Web of Science», «Scopus» and other internationally recognized databases) and 25 scientific articles were published in republican scientific journals (on the OAK list).
\nDuring 2023, students and teachers participated in more than 30 international conferences, seminars, scientific or educational projects in cooperation with foreign higher education institutions.
\nDuring 2023, 13 textbooks and 6 training manuals received a certificate of passing from the coordinating council under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation.<\/p>\n
