About the work done on “reduction of plastic waste” at the Andijan Institute of Agriculture and Agrotechnologies
INFORMATION
Today, plastic is found in almost everything. Food and hygiene products are packed in it. Car, phone and computer covers are also made from it. This plastic waste ends up in landfills, beaches, rivers and oceans. The Pacific Garbage Patch, the continent’s size, contributes to dire problems such as the circulation of debris larger than plate plankton. Also, most plastics are made from oil. About 1 million people use plastic bags every minute, and one plastic bag can take 1,000 years to degrade. If consumers are bringing reusable bags to the grocery store, it’s a good idea, but if consumers are still using plastic grocery bags, it’s time to change.
According to UN reports, 300 million tons of plastic waste are generated in the world in one year. Of this, 8 million tons fall into the world’s oceans and pose a great threat to the lives of ocean creatures.
Based on the information given above, a number of works on reducing plastic waste are being carried out at the Andijan Institute of Agriculture and Agro-Technology.
For example, in the institution’s common dining areas, bulk meals made from rice, pasta, beans, nuts, and cereals are sold and a reusable bag or container is filled with these items, which in turn saves both money and unnecessary products. helps to save. Catering establishments have various ways to reduce the weight of the container, for which the customer service center should be contacted before filling the container.
Additionally, instead of plastic, a variety of ready-to-eat foods can be purchased in glass containers on campus, including spaghetti sauce, salsa, and applesauce, to name just a few. Instead of throwing them away or recycling them, consumers can reuse food storage containers or take them with them when buying large quantities of food. If there are plastic containers left over from yogurt, butter or other food, they should be thrown into special landfills.
At the beginning of each academic year, the rector of the institute meets with professors, teachers, employees and students of the institute and holds a two-day meeting.
The participants of the meeting emphasized that they will pay more attention to the issue of reducing plastic waste in the territory of the institute and signed agreements on this.
